Goa enjoys a place of pride in the country as one of the most literate states of India. Goa has achieved 88% literacy as per 2011 population census which is much higher than national average literacy rate [74.04%] of India. The government of Goa considers education as the foundation human development and a source of cultivation of traits for responsible citizenship. The growing demand for education at the secondary and higher secondary levels also been met to a large extent. In view of the above the main focus is on upgrading and qualitative improvement of education, orientation of teacher to keep them side by side with modern techniques, in the teaching-learning situation, Training in a special skill of education/computer education, strengthening of administrative machinery for effective implementation of policies. Though the State of Goa has recorded 88% literacy and a high attainment level, the need of the hour is to reinforce its educational policy towards regional gender gaps, reducing the drop-out rate, emphasizing skill development and vocational programmes to keep in check unemployment, improving quality of Education, infrastructure development in schools, orientation of teachers, comput¬er integrated education and upgradation of libraries.
